Tool Pad

The Tool Pad appears at the top of the left margin. Each tool is used to create a particular genogram element. After selecting a tool, click or drag the mouse over the workspace to create something. You can modify the newly created element from the Property Pad, the Pen Menu, or the Text Menu. If you did not create what you intended, you can undo the create operation, or you can delete the newly created elements.

The following tools are available:

Selection Tool

After selecting this tool, drag the mouse diagonally to define a rectangular area of selected genogram elements. Selected elements can be modified, moved, or even deleted in a single operation. More...

Figure Tool

After selecting this tool, click the mouse to create a new figure. This figure may be added as a parent, spouse, or child. To preview the new figure, drop the mouse onto any empty space, and drag it until the desired figure appears. The new figure is created when the mouse is released.

If the mouse is moving leftward, the new figure will be male. If the mouse is moving rightward, the new figure will be female.

If the mouse is dragged to the top of an existing figure, parents will be created.

If the mouse is dragged to the bottom of an existing figure, the new figure will be a partner/spouse of that figure. Drag the mouse to the bottom left corner to create a partner/spouse to the left. Drag the mouse to the bottom right corner to create a partner/spouse to the right.

If the mouse is dragged onto the horizontal bar representing a family, the new figure will be a child of that family.

If the mouse is dragged onto the vertical bar above an existing child, the new figure will be a twin.

If you release the mouse over the center of an existing figure, nothing is created.
